Atlas Gutter Replacement: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

If you have Atlas gutters that are pulling away, leaking at the seams, or rusting through, replacement is usually more cost-effective than patching, and in San Antonio it typically runs $9 to $14 per linear foot installed for standard 5-inch aluminum gutters, including removal of the old runs. Most single-story homes fall between $1,200 and $2,400 all-in, and our crews can typically knock out a full replacement in a single day. What owners usually notice first is a section of gutter sagging away from the fascia after a heavy spring downpour, or water spilling over the front edge instead of flowing toward the downspout. By the time you see staining on the soffit or erosion at the foundation line, the gutter has been quietly failing for a while.

We’re Mercer Roofing Co San Antonio, and we’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Atlas. We install and stock Atlas-compatible gutter systems alongside GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed roofing products so your gutters and shingles work as one system, not two strangers bolted to the same house.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas gutters come in a few distinct profiles, and matching the replacement to the existing run matters more than most homeowners expect. The two most common in San Antonio are the Atlas 5K aluminum profile (5-inch, standard residential) and the Atlas 6K profile (6-inch, used on larger roof planes or homes with steep pitches where heavy runoff overwhelms smaller gutters). You can identify what you have by measuring the opening width from the back of the gutter to the front lip: 5 inches means 5K, 6 inches means 6K. The manufacturer stamp is usually on the inside face of a downspout drop or on the hidden back side of an end cap, though after years of Texas sun it’s often faded to nothing.

The compatibility gotcha we see most often in San Antonio is this: Atlas 6K gutters use a wider hidden hanger bracket than most aftermarket 6-inch systems, so a “generic” replacement hanger will leave the gutter loose against the fascia. We stock the correct Atlas-spec hangers, or quality OEM-equivalent brackets that match the spacing on the 6K profile. On the material side, we default to .027-gauge aluminum for replacement runs, which holds its shape better through San Antonio’s July heat than the thinner .025-gauge some big-box stores sell by the coil. The thinner stuff expands and warps, and once a gutter has a wave in it, water pools instead of flowing. Seamless Atlas-compatible runs are what we install; sectional gutters from the hardware store always leak at the joints eventually, and San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil doesn’t forgive repeated overflow at the foundation.

Signs Your Atlas Gutter Replacement Is Failing

  • Gutter pulling away from the fascia. The hidden hanger brackets have either loosened, rusted through, or were spaced too far apart when the gutters went in. Once the gutter tilts forward, water sheets down the wall instead of entering the trough, and the weight of standing water accelerates the next failure.
  • Water spilling over the front lip during normal rain. This usually means the downspouts are undersized or partially clogged, but on Atlas 5K systems we also see it when the gutter pitch was never set correctly. San Antonio’s downpours are brief but intense; a gutter that can’t clear water fast enough during a 20-minute storm will overflow every time one hits.
  • Rust streaks or pinholes along the bottom of the gutter. Atlas aluminum doesn’t rust, but the steel end caps and corner joints on some older sectional installs do. Pinholes at the seam mean moisture has been sitting there long enough to eat through metal. By the time you see a streak on the front face, the back side is usually worse.
  • Staining on the soffit or water marks running down the exterior wall. This points to water backing up under the drip edge or overflowing at the back of the gutter. The gutters may look fine from the ground, but the damage is happening behind them, and soffit rot in humid San Antonio summers doesn’t dry out on its own.
  • Foundation erosion or pooling near the downspout exits. Downspouts that dump water right at the foundation line, or gutters draining onto sloped beds with no splash guard, are failing their only job. In San Antonio’s expansive clay soil, repeated saturation at the perimeter is what causes the hairline wall cracks and sticking doors that send homeowners to foundation repair companies.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard single-story San Antonio home with roughly 150 to 180 linear feet of gutter, an Atlas-compatible seamless aluminum replacement runs $1,350 to $2,520 installed. That range covers removal and haul-away of the old gutters, new hidden hangers matched to the Atlas profile, downspouts and elbows, and sealing at the miters and end caps. Two-story homes run higher because of ladder time and longer downspout runs, and homes with multiple roof levels or unusual geometry can exceed $3,000.

What drives the price most is linear footage and downspout count, not the brand name. Atlas 5K and 6K replacement pricing is nearly identical to any other quality aluminum system in San Antonio, so we quote it the same. We give a written line-item price before any work starts, no exceptions, and that price includes the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation isn’t done right within a year, we make it right. The workmanship warranty is in writing, on every job, with no fine print about “normal wear” or “acts of weather.” You’ll know what the gutters cost, what the downspouts cost, and what the labor costs, before a single bracket goes up.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: whether the gutter is visibly sagging or separating from the fascia, whether downspouts are clogged with leaves and shingle grit, and whether water pools in the gutter instead of flowing toward the outlets. That’s useful diagnostic information, and it helps us quote accurately over the phone. What we don’t recommend is a homeowner on an extension ladder trying to re-pitch 30 feet of gutter, remove hidden hangers, or carry a seamless 40-foot section alone. Gutter work is ladder work, and ladder work is where we see the worst falls. Seamless gutters also require a roll-former machine to fabricate on-site; there’s no cost-effective way to DIY the thing that actually works.

If you’re comfortable cleaning and observing, do that. If you need it replaced, call us at (254) 276-4369 and we’ll handle the ladders, the old gutter removal, and the new runs, with a written price before we start. Grant Whitlock has seen enough San Antonio gutter failures to know the real fix usually isn’t a $12 tube of sealant from the hardware store.
