Atlas Ridge Vent Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Atlas ridge vent installation in San Antonio typically runs $285 to $520 for a standard single-family home, and we stock Atlas-compatible components on our trucks for same-day installation in most cases. Most homeowners discover their ridge vent has failed after a heavy rain, when water stains appear on the ceiling near an exterior wall, or when they notice shingle granules collecting in gutters directly below the ridge line. You’re reading this because something’s wrong up there and you want the straight answer on what it costs and whether it can be fixed today. Call (254) 276-4369 and we’ll give you a written price before any work starts.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To
Atlas manufactures two primary ridge vent systems that we install and replace in San Antonio: the Atlas Pro-Cut Ridge Vent and the Atlas WeatherMaster Ridge Vent. The Pro-Cut is the more common of the two, a shingle-over design with a baffled external profile that sits low against the roof deck. The WeatherMaster includes a filter media layer and is typically specified on higher-end Atlas shingle systems, particularly the StormMaster and Pinnacle lines. The two are not interchangeable: the WeatherMaster has a wider throat opening, and installing a Pro-Cut where the original roof was framed for WeatherMaster airflow changes the attic ventilation math. That’s the kind of detail that matters in a San Antonio attic, where July heat pushes ridge temperatures past 140 degrees and ventilation shortfalls show up as higher cooling bills, not just hot upstairs rooms.
You can identify which Atlas vent you have two ways. Look at the end cap of the vent from the gable end or ladder: Pro-Cut caps are about 3 inches tall, WeatherMaster caps are closer to 3.75 inches. Or check the shingle warranty paperwork from the original install, which lists accessory components by model name. We carry both Atlas Pro-Cut and WeatherMaster vent sections (4-foot lengths) on the truck, along with Atlas end caps and connectors. We also stock quality aftermarket equivalents that match the Atlas profile and airflow specs. Our honest recommendation: OEM Atlas parts for roofs still under shingle warranty, aftermarket is fine for older roofs, and we’ll tell you which applies to your house without upselling either direction.
We’re an independent San Antonio roofing contractor, not an Atlas corporate installer, and we install ridge vent systems from all major manufacturers including GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed.

Signs Your Atlas Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Granules collecting in gutters near the ridge line. This usually means water is getting under the shingle tabs at the ridge and washing granules down. The vent’s weather filter is saturated, and water takes the path of least resistance, which is straight down your roof deck.
- Water stains on ceilings near exterior walls, not in the middle of rooms. Ridge leaks follow the roof slope and show up where the wall meets the ceiling. This is the textbook Atlas vent failure signature in San Antonio homes built in the 1990s and 2000s.
- Visible gaps or lifted sections along the ridge after wind. San Antonio gets sustained 30 to 40 mph winds in spring storms, and once one section of ridge vent lifts, wind-driven rain gets under the rest. From the street, it looks like a wavy ridge line.
- Animals in the attic. Squirrels and rats chew through aged filter media and nest inside ridge vents. If you hear scratching near the attic peak at dawn, your vent might be the entry point.
- Higher cooling bills without any other explanation. A failed ridge vent stops venting. Hot attic air stays trapped, your AC works harder, and the bill tells you before the water stain does.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical single-story San Antonio home with 40 to 50 linear feet of ridge, expect $285 to $395 for Pro-Cut replacement and $360 to $520 for WeatherMaster replacement, including parts, labor, and cleanup. The range comes down to three things: roof pitch, how much original underlayment is still sound, and whether the ridge shingles can be re-used or need to be cut back and replaced. Two-story homes add $80 to $150 for ladder setup and fall protection time. Steeper pitches above 7/12 add about 15 percent.
What’s included in every Atlas ridge vent job we do in San Antonio: removal and disposal of the old vent, inspection of the ridge opening and decking beneath, any minor decking repair, installation of the new Atlas vent sections and connectors, new end caps, and new shingle tabs over the ridge. You get the written price before we touch the roof, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right within a year, we make it right. Written guarantee on every repair, included with every job. If the repair fails, the second visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things you can safely check from the ground. Look at your ridge line from across the street and see if it appears wavy or uneven compared to neighbor roofs. Check gutters for granules. Check the attic on a dry day with a flashlight: look for daylight peeking through the ridge vent filter, which should not be visible if the media is intact. Those checks are free and safe.
What we don’t recommend is doing the replacement yourself. Ridge vent installation means working at the highest point of your roof, handling shingles over your head, and walking on a sloped surface where one wrong step puts you on the ground. We pull the old vent, and if the decking underneath is soft or rotted, you’re now doing structural repair without a harness. Even on a low-pitch Alamo Heights bungalow, this is not a Saturday project. Grant Whitlock and our crew do this work with proper fall protection, on hot roofs, every week. Call (254) 276-4369 and we’ll look at it before you rent a ladder you’ll never want to climb.
FAQs
An Atlas Pro-Cut or WeatherMaster ridge vent typically lasts 12 to 18 years in San Antonio, which is shorter than the national average because our UV index and hail exposure degrade the polymer baffles and filter media faster. If your shingles are 15 or more years old and the vent has never been touched, plan on replacing it when you replace the shingles. Call (254) 276-4369 and we’ll tell you exactly what’s left on your specific roof.
Sometimes. If only one section is lifted or one end cap is missing, we can replace that section and match the profile, which usually runs $95 to $180. If the filter media is saturated, brittle, or chewed through in multiple places, repair stops making sense and full replacement is the honest answer. The written price we give covers either scenario before work starts.
Standard replacement takes 3 to 5 hours for a typical San Antonio single-story home. Two-story homes and steeper roofs add 1 to 2 hours. We clean up all old materials the same day, and most jobs are done in one visit.
Yes. Our trucks in San Antonio carry 4-foot sections of both Atlas Pro-Cut and WeatherMaster, plus end caps, connectors, and fasteners. If you have a WeatherMaster and we’re out of OEM that day, we’ll install the aftermarket equivalent with the same airflow rating and tell you before we do it. No surprises on the invoice either way.
When your ridge vent fails, the fix is straightforward for a crew that does it every week. A roof shouldn’t be something you worry about, that’s our job. Call (254) 276-4369 for a free estimate, and you’ll get a written price before anything touches your roof.
