CertainTeed Gutter Replacement: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have CertainTeed gutters on your San Antonio home and a section is pulling away, rusted through, or pouring water over the back edge, we carry compatible CertainTeed gutter replacement materials and install them for $9 to $24 per linear foot, depending on material and profile. Most single-side replacements on a standard San Antonio ranch run $1,100 to $2,600 installed, and we can usually get your section swapped within a few days of your free estimate. The most common call we get starts with a homeowner noticing water spilling behind the gutter during a downpour, or finding a sagging run with standing water that never drains. That’s a failed or undersized section, and on a CertainTeed system, it usually means the original hanger spacing or a bad seam finally gave out after years of Hill Country thunderstorms.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s gutter lineup includes their K-style aluminum and copper profiles in 5-inch and 6-inch widths, sold through their WeatherBoards and Restoration Millwork distribution lines. If you’re holding a section with a faded label or none at all, measure the width across the top opening: a 5-inch gutter fits most single-story homes, while a 6-inch profile is what we recommend for steep roof pitches and any San Antonio roof with tile or metal, because the runoff volume is higher. The profile matters too: CertainTeed K-style carries a flat back and decorative front that mimics crown molding, so a generic replacement that doesn’t match the front profile will be visibly wrong from the street.
For homeowners, the practical decision is OEM CertainTeed vs. quality aftermarket. CertainTeed’s own aluminum is what we order when the run is long, visible, and the homeowner wants an exact material match. Aftermarket equivalents from our suppliers hold up the same in San Antonio weather when the gauge is right, usually .027-inch aluminum or heavier and cost about 15 to 20 percent less. We’ll quote both and tell you honestly which makes sense for your house. Since Mercer Roofing Co San Antonio is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CertainTeed, our loyalty is to the roof, not a brand rep. We also stock compatible replacement parts for GAF and Owens Corning systems, so if you’re not sure what you have, we can identify it on site.

Signs Your CertainTeed Gutter Replacement Is Failing
- Water spilling behind the gutter, not out the downspout. The back edge of the gutter has pulled away from the fascia or the flashing is gone, letting water run straight down your wall. On CertainTeed K-style, we often see this at the seam where two sections were joined and the sealant dried out over years of San Antonio sun.
- Visible rust pinpricks or a rusted-through bottom. Even coated aluminum corrodes once the factory finish is scratched, especially with the combo of San Antonio’s hard water and trapped oak leaves holding moisture against the metal.
- Sagging or gaps at the hangers. CertainTeed systems installed with hangers too far apart (we see 36-inch spacing on houses where 24-inch was needed) begin to bow, and standing water adds weight until the section pulls free.
- White chalky streaks on the front face. This is the factory coating breaking down. The gutter still sheds water for a while, but the metal underneath is now exposed, and replacement is a matter of when, not if.
- Downspout separation or water pooling at the foundation. If the downspout no longer connects cleanly to the gutter outlet, or water dumps at the slab instead of away from it, your gutter run has shifted and the outlet is usually the failure point.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed CertainTeed gutter replacement in San Antonio typically lands between $9 and $24 per linear foot. Aluminum 5-inch K-style is the workhorse: $9 to $14 per foot with standard hangers and downspout outlet. Six-inch aluminum runs $12 to $17 per foot, and if you’re replacing copper, expect $18 to $24 per foot because the material cost alone is multiples of aluminum. The range is driven by two things: how many linear feet are being replaced and whether we’re also replacing hangers, end caps, or the downspout outlet. A 40-foot run on a typical Alamo Heights bungalow runs $360 to $560 for the gutter itself, plus hangers and outlet work.
Every quote is written, line by line, before any work starts. You’ll see the cost of the gutter section, hangers, sealant, and labor broken out separately, and that’s the number you pay. No change orders unless you ask us to add work. And every replacement is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the new section fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

Replacing a short, straight gutter section on a single-story home is something a careful homeowner can do with a friend and a ladder, but we’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t say where it goes wrong. Gutter replacement means working at height on a ladder, handling sheet metal with cut edges, and getting the pitch right so water actually flows. Too little pitch and you’ll have standing water; too much and water overshoots at the downspout. The truth is, the time and tool cost for a one-off DIY section usually outweighs the labor cost of having us do it, especially when the section is over 16 feet and needs a seam. That said, there’s one thing you can do safely from the ground: check that your downspout extensions are attached and discharging away from the slab. If you find a rusted-through section or a pulled-away run, call us at (254) 276-4369 and we’ll measure it and give you a written price before anything gets ordered.
FAQs
CertainTeed aluminum gutters typically last 15 to 20 years in San Antonio, though the factory finish often fails cosmetically around year 10 due to UV exposure and hard water. Copper systems last 40-plus years. Your actual lifespan depends on how often you clean them and whether the original hanger spacing was correct.
Small holes and separated seams can be patched or resealed, and that’s often the right call for isolated damage under 6 inches long. But a rusted-through bottom or a run with multiple failure points is not worth patching: the metal is fatigued, and the next storm will open up a new hole. We’ll tell you straight which situation you’re in, and we’ll show you the damage before recommending replacement. Call (254) 276-4369 and we’ll give you an honest read and a written price either way.
Most single-side CertainTeed gutter replacements take 2 to 4 hours on site. We remove the failed section, inspect the fascia behind it for rot or damage, install the new run with proper hanger spacing, seal the end caps and outlet, and test it with water before we leave.
We keep standard 5-inch and 6-inch aluminum K-style sections in common San Antonio colors on hand, and we fabricate custom lengths on site. For copper or less common profiles, we order from our supplier and usually have the material within a few business days.
