GAF Roofing Company in San Antonio: What to Know First
We’re an independent GAF service provider in San Antonio, which means we repair and replace GAF shingle roofs without being tied to the manufacturer’s sales channel. Most GAF roof repairs in San Antonio run $450 – $1,800 depending on the damage, and a full replacement on an average single-story home lands between $9,500 and $16,500. We give you a written price before any work starts, so you know the number before we pick up a hammer.
If you own a home with GAF Timberline, Royal Sovereign, or Glenwood shingles and you’ve noticed a leak, lifted shingles, or granules in your gutters, this page tells you what’s actually going on and what it costs to fix. Call (254) 276-4369 and a live person answers, day or night. Grant Whitlock, our owner, insists on it.
How GAF Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- Timberline HDZ sealant strip delamination. San Antonio’s summer sun bakes roof surfaces to 160°F or more, and the factory adhesive strip on Timberline HDZ shingles can lose tack before the shingles fully bond after installation. We see shingles that lift at the corners within 12 to 18 months when the original install happened in winter. We hand-seal affected tabs with a compatible asphalt adhesive and check the nailing pattern while we’re up there.
- Royal Sovereign wind tab tearing. GAF’s three-tab Royal Sovereign line is thinner than architectural lines and the tabs split at the nail line after years of wind flexing. The fix is usually a section replacement rather than spot repair, because once one tab tears, the neighboring tabs are fatigued too. We color-match from GAF’s current palette and blend the repair line so it doesn’t look like a patch job.
- Glenwood and Camelot II heavy-laminate granule loss. These premium designer lines are heavy and beautiful, but San Antonio hail doesn’t care how much you spent. Granule loss on the top laminate layer exposes the asphalt beneath and accelerates UV breakdown. We document the damage with photos, check the underlying mat for bruising, and tell you honestly whether it’s a repair or a claim-level replacement.
- Flashing failure at Alamo Heights chimneys and valleys. This isn’t a GAF defect, but older Alamo Heights homes with GAF roofs frequently leak because the original flashing was cut into mortar or the valley metal was lapped incorrectly. Water follows the flashing seam, not the shingle. We replace the flashing and reseal with a manufacturer-compatible sealant, then test the repair with a controlled water spray before we call it done.
- Improper nailing from the original install. GAF specifies 4 nails per shingle in normal wind zones and 6 in high-wind exposure areas, but we regularly find roofs in the Hill Country-facing subdivisions with 3 nails or overdriven fasteners that pierce the shingle mat. Overdriven nails hold nothing. We pull and replace the affected shingles, resetting the nails to the correct depth and pattern, because that’s what the warranty expects and what the roof needs.

Our GAF Roofing Company Process
- 1
Call us. A live person answers at (254) 276-4369. We ask what you’re seeing, where the leak or damage is, and when it started. No script, no phone tree.
- 2
We send you the tech’s name and photo before they arrive. Every Mercer Roofing technician is background-checked, uniformed, and carries a photo ID badge they’ll show at the door. You’ll know exactly who’s coming up your driveway.
- 3
The inspection. We walk the roof, take photos, and document everything we find on your GAF shingles, flashing, decking, and underlayment. We explain what we see in plain English.
- 4
The written price. Before any work starts, you get a line-item price in writing. That number is the number. No change orders on the back end, no “we found more damage” surprises.
- 5
The repair or replacement. We use GAF-compatible materials and match your existing color and profile. If the repair calls for a specific part – flashing, ridge cap, starter strip – we source what the job actually needs, not whatever is left in the truck.
- 6
We test it, then guarantee it. Leak repairs get a controlled water test. Every repair comes with a written 365-day guarantee. If it fails within the year, the second visit is free.

Why San Antonio Homeowners Call Mercer Roofing Co San Antonio for GAF Work
We’ve been doing this since 2000, and we’ve learned that what homeowners want most – especially if you’re home alone during the day or you’ve got young kids in the house – is certainty about who’s walking onto your property. Every Mercer Roofing technician is background-checked, identity-verified, and dispatched under our Threshold Verified standard. You get a name and a photo before the truck pulls up, and a photo ID badge at the door. That’s the standard we’re held to as part of the Threshold Group family of home-service companies.
Grant Whitlock learned roofing through the construction technology program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he’s spent years since then on real roofs in real weather, including delicate flashing work on older Alamo Heights homes. He trains our crew to treat every GAF roof like it’s the one he’d tuck his own kid under. We also have deep experience with Owens Corning and CertainTeed lines, so if your roof has a mix of brands or you’re considering a switch, we can give you straight guidance without a sales pitch. A roof shouldn’t be something you worry about – that’s our job.
Written price before any work starts. Written 365-day guarantee on every repair. A free second visit if a repair fails within the year. That’s the deal, every time.
FAQs
No. As an independent GAF service provider, we perform repairs that preserve your warranty standing by using GAF-compatible materials and following proper installation practices. GAF warranties cover manufacturing defects, not normal wear or storm damage, and a properly executed repair doesn’t cancel your protection. If you’re filing a claim, we’ll document the damage with photos and a written report you can submit.
Most GAF repairs are completed within 3 to 5 business days of your call, depending on material availability and weather. Small flashing or shingle repairs often take a single visit of 2 to 4 hours. We don’t rush the diagnosis or the paperwork, because the written guarantee on every repair only works if the repair is actually right.
We do both. If your GAF roof is at or near the end of its service life – commonly 15 to 25 years for Timberline lines in San Antonio – we’ll give you an honest replacement quote with GAF Timberline HDZ or your preferred series. If it’s a localized issue and the rest of the roof is sound, we’ll say that too, and give you a written repair price.
Every repair we complete is covered by a written guarantee for 365 days. If the repair fails within that year, we come back and make it right at no charge, including a free second visit. It’s in writing, on every job, no fine print and no conditions other than that the failure is on the repair we performed.
No. The written price you approve before we start is the price you pay, full stop. If we find something unexpected – a rotted decking section, for example – we stop, explain what we found, show you, and get your approval on a new written price before we touch it. Call (254) 276-4369 for an exact quote – estimates are free.
