IKO Shingle Repair: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in San Antonio typically runs $325 to $680 for a standard repair covering 10 to 20 damaged shingles, including materials and labor. We stock IKO-compatible shingles on our trucks and can usually complete the repair the same day we diagnose it. Most San Antonio homeowners discover a failed IKO shingle after a spring hailstorm or a windy afternoon, when granules start collecting in gutters or a shingle tab shows up in the yard. The shingle didn’t just go bad overnight. It took weather, UV exposure, and time to get there, and now the roof needs a targeted fix before water finds the decking underneath.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
We repair IKO architectural shingles across the Cambridge, Dynasty, and Marathon series, plus the older Aristokrat and Royal Estate lines that still cover a good number of San Antonio roofs built in the 1990s and early 2000s. IKO’s architectural lines run a consistent 13-1/4 inches wide by 39-3/8 inches long, with a 5-5/8 inch exposure, but the color lot matters more than the model number when matching. IKO changes dye lots between production runs, so a Cambridge Dual Black from 2019 will not match a Cambridge Dual Black from 2023 perfectly. We carry multiple IKO color lots and blend repairs by pulling from several bundles so the patch doesn’t read as an obvious square on your roof. When an exact OEM IKO match is not available, a quality aftermarket dimensional shingle of the same weight class, typically 250 to 280 pounds per square, gets you close, but we will show you the color difference in full sun before we install anything. Mercer Roofing Co San Antonio is an independent roofing contractor and not affiliated with IKO, which matters because we’re honest about when a true OEM match is necessary and when an equivalent does the job.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules collecting in gutters or at downspout bases. IKO’s ceramic-coated granules protect the asphalt core from Texas UV. Once the granule layer thins, the shingle bakes and curls, and repair needs to happen before rain reaches the fiberglass mat.
- Curling or cupping shingle edges catching morning light. San Antonio’s temperature swings cause the asphalt to expand and contract, and IKO shingles that weren’t sealed properly at the factory or were nailed too high will lift at the corners. Curled edges mean the seal strip has let go.
- Missing tabs after wind events, especially on north-facing slopes. IKO’s sealant bonds tabs down, but once a tab breaks free, the wind catches it and peels neighbors with it. A single missing tab is a repair; a missing square meter of tabs is a larger conversation.
- Water staining on ceiling drywall or dark streaks on roof decking visible from the attic. This is the inconvenient truth: by the time you see interior staining, the shingle failure happened months earlier and water has been traveling along the underlayment.
- Brittle shingles that crack when you brush against them. After 15-plus Texas summers, IKO shingles lose their flexibility. If a shingle snaps or crumbles under light pressure, the repair window is shrinking fast, and patching a few becomes a gamble.
Each of these symptoms points to a specific failure: adhesive breakdown, UV degradation, nail placement error from the original install, or simple age. We will tell you which one you have, in plain English, before you spend a dollar.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
The price to repair IKO shingles in San Antonio depends mostly on how many shingles failed and how high and steep the roof section is. A minor repair on a single-story, low-slope section runs $280 to $380. That covers replacing 6 to 10 shingles, sealing the surrounding area, and inspecting the underlayment. A larger repair on a two-story home with a steeper pitch, or one involving ridge cap or valley flashing, runs $450 to $680. The cost breaks out as roughly 40 percent materials and 60 percent labor, and we hand you a written line-item price before any work starts. That written price is the price, no change orders on the back end. Every IKO shingle repair includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the repair fails within a year, we return and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect from the ground: look for missing tabs, count shingles in the gutter, and check attic sheathing for dark streaks after a heavy rain. What you should not do is climb onto a San Antonio roof in July heat, on a pitch steeper than 4/12, and start prying up IKO shingles with a flat bar. Beyond the fall risk, the real damage from DIY shingle work is invisible: a nail driven through the wrong spot, a seal strip broken on a healthy shingle to reach a bad one, or a color mismatch that your HOA flags before the next association meeting. Shingle replacement requires knowing where the nail line sits, how IKO’s seal strips bond in heat, and how to avoid breaking the shingles around the repair. Grant Whitlock learned shingle mechanics through the construction technology program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has taught his crew to match nail placement and color blending on every repair. If you want to watch and learn, we’ll walk you through what we’re doing. If you’d rather stay inside with the AC on, that works too. Call (254) 276-4369 and we’ll handle it.
FAQs
Most IKO architectural shingles last 18 to 25 years in San Antonio’s climate, which runs hotter and sunnier than the national average. The UV index here accelerates granule loss, so IKO roofs in full sun exposure with no tree cover trend toward the lower end of that range. We can tell you where your roof sits within that window during a repair inspection.
If the surrounding shingles are still flexible, the seal strips are intact, and the granule layer looks healthy, a targeted repair of 10 to 20 shingles is the smart move. A full replacement is worth considering when more than 30 percent of the slope shows granule loss, curling, or seal failure. Call (254) 276-4369 and we’ll tell you which path makes sense for your roof, with a written price either way.
Most IKO shingle repairs take 2 to 4 hours from setup to cleanup. Larger repairs involving valleys, ridge cap, or flashing work can stretch to a full day. We set the expectation before we start, and we don’t leave until the repair passes our own inspection and yours.
We stock common IKO architectural colors and profiles on our trucks for immediate repairs, and we work with local San Antonio suppliers to pull specific color lots when needed. If we need to order a particular IKO color, that adds one to three business days. We’ll confirm color availability before we schedule so you’re not left waiting.
